Transport for London

About the Congestion Charge

The Congestion Charge is a daily charge for driving in a certain part of central London. It operates between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday and is £8.

Payment allows you to enter, drive within, and exit the Charging zone as many times as you wish on the same day.

Who has to pay the Congestion Charge

Not everyone has to pay the charge. Some individuals, organisations and vehicles are exempt from payment, or can claim a discount from the charge.

Find out if you can get a discount or an exemption.

Aim of the Congestion Charge

The charge aims to reduce traffic congestion and make journeys quicker by encouraging people to choose other forms of transport.

We invest all net revenue raised from Congestion Charging in improving transport in London.
