Paying the Congestion Charge

You can pay in advance or on the day of travel. If you don't pay by midnight on the charging day after you drove in the zone, you'll get a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). 

Not all drivers have to pay. Find out about discounts and exemptions.

Congestion Charge Auto Pay (CCAP)
This automated payment system will record the number of charging days a vehicle travels within the charging zone each month and bill your debit or credit card each month.

Pay in advance or by midnight on the day of travel
You can pay up to 90 days in advance. So, for example, you could pay for one day, a month or a year. Or you can pay after the journey on the day of travel.

By midnight the following charging day
You can only pay the following day online or by phone. If you travel on a Friday you have until midnight on the following Monday to pay.

CC Auto Pay

You can pay the Congestion Charge in a number of ways. It's quickest and easiest if you register for CC Auto Pay.

Congestion Charge Auto Pay is an automated payment system.

We'll automatically record the number of charging days a vehicle travels within the charging zone each month and bill your debit or credit card each month.

Benefits of Auto Pay

  • Never forget to pay the charge again
  • A reduced daily charge (£10.50)
  • Protection from receiving Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) as long as your vehicle is registered and your Auto Pay account is active
  • Register up to five vehicles

Registration

  1. Register for a customer account first. If you already have a customer account, you'll still need to register for Auto Pay 
  2. Once you have a customer account you can then register for Auto Pay:

When registering you'll need to tell us:

  • Which vehicles you're registering for Auto Pay (£10 per vehicle per year)
  • Your credit or debit card details (excluding Maestro or Solo)

You must be over 18 to register. You can receive your statements online or by post and you can change your vehicle and payment details at any time online.

You need to register for a customer account first and then register for CC Auto Pay. Until you received confirmation that you have paid the £10 registration charge per vehicle, you have not completed the process for setting up CC Auto Pay.

Please remember that your Auto Pay may be suspended if we are unable to collect a payment. Please check your account regularly to make sure that your payment card hasn't expired and sufficient funds are available.

More than five vehicles?

You can register up to five vehicles for Auto Pay. If you have more than five vehicles, you may be eligible for Fleet Auto Pay.

Residents' 90% discount

If you've registered for the residents' 90% discount you can also register for Auto Pay. This means you can pay the charge daily at £1.05, rather than only weekly, monthly or annually in advance through other payment methods.

By online payment

Pay online up to 90 days in advance, on the day of travel or by midnight the next charging day. The charge is £11.50 if you pay in advance or on the same day, or £14 if paid the following charging day.

By text message (SMS)

You can only pay the charge by text on the day you travel.

First you need to register for a customer account online or call 0343 222 2222. (TfL call charges).

Once registered, call us on 0343 222 2222 to activate your text payment service.

Text 81099 to make a payment.

You'll always receive a confirmation text message when your payment has been successful.

 
By phone

Pay the charge in advance, on the day of travel or up to midnight the following charging day. The charge is £11.50 if you pay in advance or on the same day, or £14 if paid the following charging day.

Outside of call centre hours, payments for travel on the day can be made online (up to midnight) at a charge of £11.50.

If you've registered with us you will also be able to make payments for the same day (up to midnight) at a charge of £11.50 by mobile phone text message (SMS) or via the automated telephone service.
