Tottenham Hale

Benefits of the work

The improved station will be a focal point of the new district centre - it's already an iconic gateway to Tottenham and the Upper Lea Valley. Customers are benefiting from improved:

  • Interchange and journey times
  • Accessibility and legibility
  • Ambience and journey experience
  • Retail opportunities

Tube/rail station

The new large integrated ticket hall and concourse make it easier for customers to switch between Tube and rail services. They no longer need to walk outside to continue journeys to central London, the West End, the City of London, Stratford, Stansted Airport and Cambridge.

The interchange route is fully step-free between the Tube and Greater Anglia rail services.

The new step-free entrance takes customers directly to the recently upgraded bus station and nearby taxi and public hire cab ranks.

Our improvements include:

  • A new landmark entrance to the station
  • Enlarged and integrated station concourse to reduce crowding and queuing
  • Step-free access to National Rail platforms via two new lifts and a bridge created by Network Rail
  • Replacement of the existing lift to the Tube - there is now step-free access from street to train
  • Provision for over-station development
  • Two new retail units

We're completing some minor works to the non-public areas of the station.

Other improvements in the area

We have:

  • Introduced a two-way traffic system in 2015 to help reduce the impact of traffic in the area, and to create the opportunity for other developers and Haringey Council to transform Tottenham
  • Built a new bus station and public square
  • Redesigned the taxi rank space outside the station - this opened in 2017

The West Anglia main line has also been upgraded by Network Rail - this allows a more frequent local rail service at Tottenham Hale.

The changes will make the area more accessible and safer for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.

Background

Tottenham Hale is the commercial heart of Tottenham and a key target for growth and regeneration.

The area is part of the Upper Lea Valley regeneration plans, and has been identified for 5,000 new homes and 4,000 new jobs with the goal of transforming the area into a new district centre. Many of the new homes have now been delivered.

Tottenham Hale station will be a focal point of this new district centre and should be an iconic gateway to Tottenham and the Upper Lea Valley.

Tottenham Hale is in the Upper Lea Valley Opportunity Area where there are plans to create 15,000 new jobs and 20,100 new homes overall.
