How to apply
Income Support and Employment and Support Allowance claimants
The Bus & Tram Discount photocard is available if you receive Income Support or Employment and Support Allowance payments and live in a London borough.
To confirm if you live in a London borough, you can check online or call our helpline on 0845 330 9876.
You must be aged between 18 and 60 and not have any other travel concession such as a Freedom Pass or New Deal.
If you are eligible for the Bus & Tram Discount photocard, you can download the application form (PDF 93KB) or pick up a copy from any Post Office in the Greater London area.
Once you have completed your application form, you need to take it to the Post Office along with each of the following:
- Two passport type photographs with your name written in capitals on the back
- Proof of identity - one of the following:
- Passport
- ID Card from European Economic Area country
- Driving licence
- Bank card
- Post Office account card
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Divorce, separation or annulment papers
- NHS medical card
- Utility bill issued in the last three months (mobile phone bills are not acceptable) or
- Home Office Application Registration Card (ARC)
The document used from this list must show your current name.
- Your letter from the Department for Works and Pensions or Jobcentre Plus, showing your entitlement to the qualifying benefit and your current address, which must be in a London borough. This must be the original, not a photocopy. If your letter is more than three months old you will also need to take a bank statement issued in the last three months, showing that you are still in receipt of the relevant benefit payments. If your benefit is paid by cheque, you can show the cheque instead of a bank statement.
The Post Office staff will validate your application and issue your Bus & Tram Discount photocard.
Jobseeker Allowance claimants
You cannot apply using the form available on this website. Instead, ask for a special application form at your Jobcentre Plus branch at your 13 week interview. You must complete the form with a Jobcentre Plus member of staff who will validate your application.
You must be aged between 18 and 60 and not be receiving any other travel concession such as a Freedom Pass or New Deal.
Please present your completed and validated application form at a Post Office along with the following:
- Two passport type photographs with your name written in capitals on the back
- Proof of identity - one of the following:
- Passport
- ID Card from European Economic Area country
- Driving licence
- Bank card
- Post Office account card
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Divorce, separation or annulment papers
- NHS medical card
- A utility bill issued in the last three months (mobile phone bills are not acceptable) or
- Home Office Application Registration Card (ARC)
The document used must show your current name.
The Post Office staff will verify your proof of identity and photographs and if correct will issue your Bus & Tram Discount photocard.
