Ticket machines: Top up your Oyster card with any amount of credit, add season tickets or buy paper tickets.
Ticket offices: Check our interactive journey map for ticket office opening times at each station. Ticket offices will top-up Oyster cards if you're putting on at least £5.
Buying tickets in advance
At ticket machines- 7 Day, monthly or longer period tickets on Oyster can be bought up to four days in advance of the start date
- Day Travelcards and Group Day tickets must be bought on the start date
- Day Travelcards and Group Day tickets can be bought up to seven days in advance of the start date
- 7 Day, monthly or longer period tickets on Oyster can be bought up to 30 days before the start date
Buses
On buses: You can use Oyster on all buses and buy tickets with cash on most.
Ticket machines at stops: In central London, you'll need a ticket before you board some services. If your bus number is displayed with a yellow background at the bus stop you'll need to buy a ticket from the machine at the stop before you get on if you don't already have a valid ticket or pass.
London Overground stations

- Buy single, return and Day paper tickets
Watford Junction does not issue Oyster cards. If you already have one, you can top-up your pay as you go credit.
Buying tickets in advance
At station ticket offices
- Day Travelcards and Group Day tickets can be bought up a week in advance of the start date
- 7 Day, monthly or longer period tickets on Oyster can be bought up to 30 days in advance of the start date
- 7 Day, monthly or longer period tickets on Oyster can be bought up to four days in advance of the start date
- Day Travelcards can be bought on the start date only
National Rail stations
Oyster
- Get and top up Oyster cards from most stations (check the National Rail website or your local station). See a list of where you can top up Oyster cards
- Buy single, return and Travelcard paper tickets
At Ticket machines: Top up your pay as you go credit and add 7 Day Travelcards to your Oyster card.
To add a longer period season ticket, you will need to do this online, at an Oyster Ticket Stop or at a Tube or London Overground station.
DLR stations
- Top up Oyster cards at all stations using the new self-serve machines
- Get and top up Oyster cards at Canary Wharf and London City Airport station information points
Buying tickets in advance
- You can only buy tickets at self service ticket machines on the day of travel
Tram stops
All ticket machines at tram stops sell single, return and one day tram and bus tickets.
Emirates Air Line
Top up Oyster cards and buy Boarding Passes to travel on the Emirates Air Line at ticket offices and machines at Emirates Greenwich Peninsula and Emirates Royal Docks terminals.
Single, return and multi-journey Boarding Passes can also be purchased at the London City Airport ticket office and the Greenwich Tourist Information Centre.
