Richard Wentworth, one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists, will be in conversation with design historian Emily King, to discuss the strategies artists and designers have used to make work for London Underground.
Wentworth became identified with the New British Sculpture movement of the late 1970s, which moved away from heavy construction. Wentworth’s interest is the juxtaposition of materials and elements that do not belong together, and on the bizarre coincidences of the urban space.
Wentworth has worked with Art on the Underground on two previous poster projects, If London Looked in the Mirror (2005) and 100 Years, 100 Artists, 100 Works of Art (2008).
Emily King is a London-based author, curator, design historian and Design Editor for Frieze magazine. She is a regular contributor to an eclectic selection of international magazines and journals, including Print and Fantastic Man.
This event is one of a series forming The Art of the Poster – a Century of Design exhibition programme at London Transport Museum. It was organised in association with Art on the Underground.
