Artists down at the depot
London Transport Museum’s Family Open Weekend at Acton Depot
1-2 November 2008
As part of the Open Weekend, artists Bob and Roberta Smith and Jessica Voorsanger invited visitors of all ages to make their own art. Hands-on activities including sign writing, a transport film quiz, music and performances were inspired by the Museum’s vast collection and Art on the Underground’s roundel centenary celebrations.

Visitors were inspired by the huge variety of decorative fonts and destinations found on vehicles, signage and posters.
Bob and Roberta Smith created a series of large-scale artworks with the help of visiting children. These were in the manner of the route and destination rolls – the list of place names still found at the front of Routemaster buses.
Sound stations
Bob and Roberta Smith worked with Leonardo Ulian and visitors to create soundscapes of London’s transport network – incorporating toys, Underground sound samples and a model railway into their works.
