Paul Noble – Pocket Tube map cover

Paul Noble - New artwork for March 2009 pocket Tube map cover New artwork for March 2009 pocket Tube map cover

British artist Paul Noble has received widespread international recognition for his monumental eight-year project – the meticulous depiction of a fictional city called Nobson Newtown.

Working in pencil, his wall-sized drawings offer aerial perspectives over a fantastical cityscape.

His commission for Art on the Underground depicts a troubadour, or travelling musician and storyteller, rendered in pencil, which alludes to themes of travel and experience and the thousands of journeys Tube customers make every day.

Noble's work is the latest in a long series commissioned by Art on the Underground for the pocket Tube map cover. Artists like Jeremy Deller, David Shrigley, Cornelia Parker and Gary Hume have also had their works featured.

A poster of Paul Noble's new tube map cover is now available to buy from the London Transport Museum.
