Gloucester Road Station: new work by artist Pae White
See Gloucester Road in a new light...
Gloucester Road Tube station is the flagship site in the Art on the Underground programme. It is an exhibition space that presents a significant challenge to artists working there. Art on the Underground choose high profile artists with a considerable international reputation to work here with a view to commissioning world class artworks for London Underground’s customers.
For the 2009 commission, which will remain in place for approximately three years, the LA based artist Pae White has been invited to make a spectacular large-scale intervention in the station.
White is renowned for her sensitive use of materials in her sculptural works. She has created delicate mobiles of millions of coloured paper discs, intricately detailed tapestries of delicate smoke trails and woven neon ceiling hangings with chandeliers for song-birds. For Gloucester Road White is designing a breathtaking neon work that will take up the full length of the platform.
As the project develops we will be updating the website with an interview and other material – watch this space for more information.
