"A lot of my friends have taken the usual route into 6th form or college. I guess they didn’t see the apprenticeship scheme as being something to aspire to – it wasn’t high-flying enough. But as soon as I started talking to them about the scheme and where I’d be in two years, they soon changed their tune. That’s the great thing about it, everything’s mapped out for you so you can see exactly where you’re going. Of course there are some slight downsides, like the shift work. You can find yourself working Friday nights and weekends but you’re getting paid, so that helps to make up for it. I definitely think I made the right decision to choose the scheme over 6th form. Now, rather than being uncertain of what I’m going to do with my life, I can look forward to having a great career. Plus, in the words of my mates, if I work hard and pass all my qualifications, in two years I’m ‘going to be minted’."
