"I was brought up in London, so I’ve been using the tube for as long as I can remember. I even did some work experience at a train depot, which involved helping to maintain a number of Piccadilly Line trains. The scheme has opened up all kinds of opportunities for me but it’s the Train Operator training that I’m most interested in. I’m looking forward to finding out how to drive a train and learning about all the other responsibilities that come with it. Ultimately, as a driver, you’re responsible for every person on your train, so if there’s an emergency or a power cut you have to take control. After I’ve gained some experience as a driver, I’d like to move up into management. Firstly as a Duty Manager for Trains where I’d oversee the train crew at a depot (which could be up to 200 drivers). Then I’d aim for Train Operations Manager, which would involve managing the whole depot. It’s a bit scary to think that far ahead at the moment but when the opportunity does come along, I’ll be ready."
