"London Underground is a big company; millions use the tube everyday. So I knew, once I finished the scheme, I’d be getting a job with plenty of security. The best bit so far? For me it was the 10-week Customer Service placement I did at Charing Cross underground station. We’d done four weeks’ training beforehand but nothing compares to being on the ticket gates for real. You get all sorts of people coming up to you, asking all kinds of questions. I found it a bit daunting at first. But I always had a mentor close at hand, who helped out with advice when I needed it. It’s a great way to build up confidence and I really enjoyed interacting with so many different people. You’re always going to get the odd ‘challenging’ customer, but the buzz you get from helping someone who is genuinely thankful makes it all worthwhile."
