Design Category - Terms and Conditions
Before entering the competition, please review the Terms and Conditions detailed below and note that the final date for receipt of entries is 12.00 BST on Friday 19 September 2008.
Eligibility
1. Subject to the exceptions set out in Condition 2, this competition is open to all. If you are 18 years of age or under, you must obtain your parent's or guardian's consent to enter and ensure that they sign the appropriate box on the entry form.
2. Any person who is an employee, consultant, agent, adviser or employee of Transport for London, Transport Trading Limited or any of its subsidiaries, or an employee of the Greater London Authority, and any member of their immediate family or any other person who is directly connected with this competition will be ineligible to enter.
Competition period
3. The competition will be open from 10.00 (BST) on Friday 4 July 2008.
4. All competition entries must be received by TfL on or before 12.00 (BST) on Friday 19 September 2008. No entries received after this time will be accepted.
Entry method
5. To enter this competition, you must provide a design that complies with the Rules for Design Category entries set out at: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/anewbusdesign and the compulsory elements of the Vehicle Specification Guidelines set out at: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/anewbusspecifications
6. Only one entry may be made by each entrant in either the Design Category or the Imagine Category (ie you can enter once in the Design Category or once in the Imagine Category but not both). Any further entries will be rejected. Once submitted entries will not be returned to the entrant.
7. Entries may be submitted in the format and manner set out in the 'How to enter' section of this competiton.
8. All entries must be in English.
Determination of winner(s)
9. Provided there are one or more entries which meet the Rules for Design Category entries, TfL will prepare a shortlist of such entries, drawn from all eligible entries received by the closing date. If no entries are shortlisted there will be no winner(s).
10. The shortlisted entries (if any) will be judged by a panel of judges drawn mainly from TfL and the Greater London Authority but including at least one independent judge. A list of the judges is available on request. The winner(s) selected by the judges will be notified in writing (either by email or post) in the week commencing October 27 2008.
Competition prizes
11. For the Design Category the main prizes are as follows: a 1st prize of £25,000 and two runners-up prizes of £10,000 each. In the event of there being more than one winner of the first prize or more than two winners for the runners-up prizes, the prize fund will be split between the winners in such proportions as TfL in its sole discretion deems fit. There is also a separate detailed Design Category where merit prizes will be awarded for a particular element of design, provided the entry meets the relevant Rules for Design Category entries. The merit prizes will be for monetary amounts of between £1,000 and £5,000. Entries in the Design Category which are not shortlisted for a prize will however be automatically entered into the Imagine Category in the relevant age category where they will be eligible for smaller merit prizes which may be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel. For these purposes, please specify your age on the application form. This is your age as at 19 September 2008.
Intellectual Property
12. TfL reserves the right to obtain such rights (whether by assignment or licence) in any intellectual property existing in or developed from the material submitted by any entrant awarded a prize under Condition 11. above on such terms as TfL in its sole discretion decides and TfL reserves the right to withhold the award of a prize until the entrant has granted such rights to TfL and entered into any licence or assignment required by TfL.
13. Each entrant grants TfL the right to display their entry in connection with the competition including publishing their entry on any website or in any publication relating to the competition and in any subsequent exhibition.
14. Each entrant confirms that all material submitted is original, is not copied from any source and does not infringe any third party rights.
General
15. The list of prize winners' names counties and countries will be available for 28 days from the date of selection of any winner(s) and will be published at www.tfl.gov.uk/anewbusforlondon. Notwithstanding that a winner or winners has been declared, if TfL discovers before the delivery of a prize that for any reason under these Terms and Conditions a winner should have been ineligible to enter the competition, or if the entry should have been declared invalid, TfL reserves the right to determine that a winner is disqualified. Winners may be required to provide proof of their age at 19 September 2008.
16. If the winner of any prize cannot be traced after reasonable efforts have been made by TfL then TfL will be entitled to dispose of the prize as it thinks fit, without any liability to the winner or other winners for having done so.
17. TfL reserves the right to remove material from the website (www.tfl.gov.uk/anewbusforlondon).
18. TfL shall have no responsibility for acts or defaults of anyone connected with the prizes to the extent that such liability can be contracted out of by law.
19. The decision of TfL is final and binding in all matters. No correspondence will be entered into.
20. TfL reserves the right to deem invalid any entry which is damaged, corrupted, defaced, illegible or incomplete. No responsibility will be accepted for lost, mislaid, late, stolen or misdirected entries or for failed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, for any computer, telephone, cable, network, electronic, or internet hardware or software malfunctions, failures, connections, availability, or for any service provider, internet, website, or net accessibility or availability, or for traffic congestion or unauthorised human error. TfL is not responsible for injury or damage to entrants' or to any other persons' computer related to or resulting from participating in this competition or downloading materials from or use of the website and excludes such liability to the fullest extent permitted by law.
21. TfL is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information and assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to its web site (to the fullest extent permitted by law).
22. By entering this competition the entrant will be deemed to have read and understood the Rules and these Terms and Conditions and accepts that they are bound by both.
23. Any prize winner(s) may be requested to participate in all reasonable post-event publicity.
24. This competition and these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed according to English law. The entrant submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

10. The winners selected by the judges will be notified in writing (either by email or post) in the week commencing 27 October 2008.
Competition prizes
11. Merit prizes will be awarded for each age category at the discretion of the judging panel. The prizes are set out at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/anewbusprizes. TfL reserves the right to substitute any prize of equivalent or higher value in the event of circumstances outside of its control or if the winner is unable to travel to London or to use to vouchers offered. There is no cash alternative.
