Bus lanes
Raising road user awareness of bus lane restrictions through effective enforcement has resulted in clearer bus lanes and an improved and more reliable bus service. This has encouraged more people to travel by bus, with usage up by 40 per cent in the past five years. In turn, this has helped to reduce congestion on London's roads.
To deter drivers from driving, stopping or parking in bus lanes during operational hours, a £120 penalty charge is issued to those who do.
Cyclists are allowed to use bus lanes, and their usage has increased greatly.
Under the Mayor's direction, TfL officials are now looking into the possibility of allowing motorcyclists to use red route bus lanes.
More information will be available in due course.
