Cycle training is a great way to gain the skills and confidence that make cycling on London`s roads a practical and pleasant experience.
We work with all the London boroughs and Cycling England to organise and fund free or subsidised cycle training.
Cycle training for children
Bikeability is aimed mainly at children and offers three levels of cycle training:
- Level 1 - basic bike control skills
- Level 2 - on-road training on quiet roads
- Level 3 - advanced on-road training to manage busy roads and junctions
The scheme forms part of the National Standards programme run by Cycling England. We are working with London boroughs to deliver Bikeability as the standard training scheme for Londoners.
All London schools are eligible to receive funding for cycle training as an addition to the school curriculum. If you would like more information contact your School Travel Adviser through your local council or email us at sta@tfl.gov.uk.
Adult cycle training
Adult cycle training is often available for free or at a very low cost through your local borough or community groups.
Absolute beginners can learn to balance on a bike, develop handling skills in a safe off-road environment and use bikes for everyday journeys.
Gain confidence
With the help of a qualified and experienced instructor, you can discover how easy it is to deal with and bypass traffic, learn new and easy shortcuts to work or home and get first hand tips for staying safe and the rules of the road.
