Casual use is best for

  • Hiring occasionally
  • Non-UK residents
  • People who don't want to sign up as a Member first

Buy casual access

Buy access

  • At the docking station terminal, online or by phone
  • For 24 hours or a week
  • For up to three other family members and friends aged 14 or over. You will all have the same access period
  • If someone else paid for your access, they'll need to be with you if you want to hire another cycle during that access period
  • If you're a Member and want to buy Casual User access, you'll need to use a different payment card, to the one registered to your account

Release codes

  • You need a five digit release code for each cycle you hire (so you'll need two codes for two cycles)
  • Each code is valid for just one journey. You'll need a new code for each journey
  • To get the release codes, insert the payment card insert the payment card for a second time (the one you just used to buy access)

Extra cycles = extra codes

  • You can buy access for between one and four cycles
  • Each cycle you buy will need its own cycle release code
  • So, if you have four cycles, you need four cycle release codes

Casual use 'how to' guide

  • Touch the terminal screen to get started (touch 'change language' if necessary)
  • Touch the 'Hire a cycle' icon - accept the 'Privacy Notice'
  • Insert your payment card into the card reader under the screen. This will check if you already have a valid access period. Once verified, remove your card
  • A screen comes up providing background information about the scheme. If you don't have a valid access period, you'll be asked which type you'd like - 24 hours or seven days
  • Confirm your purchase
  • Accept the  terms and conditions
  • Insert your payment card again, to take the payment for your access period. You can print a receipt
  • Choose whether you'd like to hire the cycle now or later
  • The screen will confirm how much time is left on your access period. If you've chosen to hire a cycle now, it will print a five-digit cycle release code
  • Use the release code within 10 minutes of getting it - if you don't you'll need a new one
  • You can only use the release code at the station you got it from
  • Enter the five digits onto the key pad of your chosen docking point
  • The docking point key pad is touch sensitive so doesn't click or beep - look out for the green light
