Smoothing traffic flow

It matters that London's roads flow smoothly, which is why we have been re-phasing the Capital's traffic lights since 2009.

Re-phased traffic lights mean:

• More predictable and reliable journeys for motorists
• Fewer 'stop-start' journeys for motorists
• Fewer obstacles for pedestrians

The work is ongoing, with more traffic lights marked for re-phasing, as well as other plans to help smooth traffic flow. These include:

• Reducing the impact of roadworks
• Managing freight movements and deliveries
