About the scheme
London's roads are some of the busiest in Europe. Each day thousands of vehicles drive in and out of the Capital. Looking after above-ground transport in London is a big responsibility - one we share with Road Network Management (RNM) and the Strategy Directorate. Once you're on our scheme and involved in civil engineering and other major projects, you'll share it too.
You'll be involved in a range of projects such as:
- Traffic schemes
- Bridge rehabilitation
- Bus priority initiatives
- Transit schemes
- Walking and cycling schemes
- Maintenance and renewal of the Capital's roads
Placements
If you're placed within RNM or Strategy, you'll work in a number of placements each lasting six months. Examples of these include:
- RNM area teams
- Project Initiation team
- Project Management Centre
- Programme Management Office
- Operational support
- Procurement
- Public Realm
- Potential external secondment to TfL's contractors
You'll also have the chance to work in placements across other directorates and areas within TfL.
Further education and professional studies
Whichever placement you're on, you can be sure that it's been designed to give you a better understanding of project management methodologies. You'll be encouraged to develop existing and new skills, and supported towards achieving the Associate of Project Management Professional Level (IPMA) Level D.
Duration
Two years.
Entry requirements
We look for a 2:2 honours degree in any discipline, although engineering, logistics or project and business-related degrees are particularly welcome.
If you're successful you'll have to pass pre-employment checks before joining. These will include reference checks, qualifications checks, right to work in the UK and in some cases a medical and a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Applications
Our graduate applications open on Monday 5 October 2009 and we recruit on a rolling basis. This means that when we have sufficient number of applications to fill positions for particular schemes, we will then close that particular application track. Therefore, applying as early as possible is vital, particularly if you want to apply for your preferred scheme.
