  • Commercial advisory and risk

Together the teams oversee all aspects of financial management, business planning and financial performance for the iconic London Underground.

Placements

Your placements will be carefully chosen, taking into account the requirements of your professional qualification, your own ambitions, and the advice of your scheme sponsor. As you progress, the placements will become more challenging to reflect your personal and professional development.

Year one: You'll take part in three placements in management accounting, financial shared services and business planning. Plus an operational placement in a key business area.

Year two: Your three placements are chosen by you and your scheme sponsor. They could include investment and project appraisal, investment control, internal audit, corporate tax, commercial finance, financial accounting, group treasury or others.

Year three: This will be two longer, in-depth placements contributing to special projects within a finance team. Options include rail, commercial finance, borough funding, or strategy and business planning, and will complement your intended career path after you've completed the scheme.

Further education and professional studies

You'll be able to study for membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

We'll also give you a highly competitive study package, including full study support (all professional body registration, course fees, etc) and leave for class attendance and exams.

Duration

Three years.

Entry requirements

You'll need a 2:1 degree in any subject, although a maths, finance or business-related subject would be ideal.

We don't need you to have in-depth technical skills at the start of the scheme, but you are expected to learn quickly through a combination of off-site technical courses, on-the-job training and the experience of your team.

If you're successful you'll have to pass pre-employment checks before joining. These will include reference checks, qualifications checks, right to work in the UK and in some cases a medical and a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Applications

Our graduate applications open on Monday 5 October 2009 and we recruit on a rolling basis. This means that when we have sufficient number of applications to fill positions for particular schemes, we will then close that particular application track. Therefore, applying as early as possible is vital, particularly if you want to apply for your preferred scheme.
