Civil Engineering – London Underground
We operate the world's largest and busiest underground railway - on an infrastructure that dates back over 150 years. It certainly brings its challenges. Which is why we're now in the midst of a far-reaching transformation.
Over the course of three years, you'll work on a wide mix of hugely exciting projects across the network. You'll contribute to major renewals and upgrades. You'll be at the very heart of our business during the most substantial period of change the service has seen for 70 years - and you'll be right there with us.
Placements
Placements usually last between three and nine months and may occasionally be with our partner suppliers. They may include:
- On-site works with major projects (eg Tottenham Court Road)
- Design work associated with a major project
- Infrastructure protection
- Maintenance and works programmes
- Assurance of infrastructure projects
Further education and professional studies
You'll train under agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers on the accredited TfL training scheme, which should lead to you gaining Chartered Engineer status within around five years.
Duration
Three years.
Entry requirements
You'll need a 2:1 BEng or MEng degree (or equivalent) in civil engineering (or a closely aligned discipline), accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
If you're successful you'll have to pass pre-employment checks before joining. These will include reference checks, qualifications checks, right to work in the UK and in some cases a medical and a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Applications
Our graduate applications open on Monday 5 October 2009 and we recruit on a rolling basis. This means that when we have sufficient number of applications to fill positions for particular schemes, we will then close that particular application track. Therefore, applying as early as possible is vital, particularly if you want to apply for your preferred scheme.
