Beta intro
Mayor of London

Cycle hire sponsorship

Cycling has become a well-established mode of transport in London, with nearly 600,000 trips a day across the city. Over the next 10 years, we'll invest almost £1bn in cycling to make London the global capital of cycling. As part of this, we'll be installing a major network of new cycle routes in central London. This will make cycling for short journeys around the centre even easier, and more attractive.

The Mayor's flagship cycle hire scheme has played an important role in raising the profile of cycling. Since it launched in 2010, there have been more than 30 million hires, and with the scheme now covering over 100km² of central and inner London, it's already become the second largest cycle hire scheme in Europe. Recognised internationally, London's 11,200 iconic bikes have become part of the fabric of the city.

We are committed to making the scheme bigger and better in the future. With our current sponsorship arrangement with Barclays ending in 2015, we're looking for a new sponsorship partner to work with us to ensure the future success of the scheme. This is an exciting time for both us and a prospective commercial organisation.

The new sponsor will be secured via a public tender process.

We have officially launched the sales process for interested parties. The key dates and milestones are:

    • 2 June 2014 - our cycle hire presentation, One City, One Scheme, One Partner is published
    • June/July/August/September 2014 - our Commercial Partnerships team are available for one-to-one meetings with interested parties
    • 8 July - following a presentation at City Hall about the tendering process, full details of the process and all tender documents are now available on our E-Tendering portal for registered parties.*
    • 29 September 2014 - deadline for tender submissions

*In order to participate in the tendering process, you'll need to register on our E-Tendering system. Once you've registered on the system you must notify our team by emailing, so they can link you to the tender documents and you can get all the updates about the tendering process.
