London 2012

Road changes

London's roads will be busier than usual during the 2012 Games. To help ease this, and to ensure athletes and officials can get to events on time, a number of temporary traffic measures and route changes will be introduced.

The Olympic and Paralympic route networks

The Olympic and Paralympic route networks (ORN/PRN) will allow key participants to travel safely and swiftly to Games events. In most cases, roads will remain open to general traffic. However, some temporary traffic changes will be introduced along the routes.

Central London Zone

Central London will be extremely busy during the 2012 Games as excited crowds flock to Games events and venues. To ensure people can move around safely, and athletes and officials can get to and from events, there will be some temporary changes to some roads around Hyde Park, Green Park and St James's Park. In some areas, stewards and barriers will also help manage the crowds.

Venue traffic and parking plans

The London 2012 Games will attract large numbers of visitors to event venues and surrounding areas, which means some temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be needed. To prevent congestion and improve safety, London 2012 is developing traffic plans with the police, local authorities and others so that local residents and businesses can carry on with their day-to-day activities.

Plan your journey

Every day of the 2012 Games will be different, so you should check your journey before setting off to avoid disruption, receiving a Penalty Charge Notice or having your vehicle towed. This includes checking parking and loading restrictions.

Gas, water, electricity and phone connections

To keep traffic flowing, the London boroughs and utilities providers have agreed that no roadworks will be carried out on key routes in the period leading up to and during the Games.

If you are likely to require utilities works that will involve digging up roads or footpaths (for example utilities connections or diversions) you should speak to your provider as soon as you can to discuss arrangements.
