London 2012
How will roads be affected?
Many parts of London will be busy during the Games, as events take place all over the Capital. The level of impact on roads varies by day, time and location. Some events and Olympic infrastructure will cause some roads to operate differently either throughout, or at different times of, the Games.
Find out more about the Olympic Route Network and Central London Zone.
Seventy per cent of traffic will be unaffected by the Games, however, journeys into or across areas directly impacted by the Games, such as near venues, the ORN or Road event routes, will be affected.
The maps provided show what impacts are expected by day, time and location to allow businesses to plan their operations accordingly.
Use the planning tool to see how your journey might be affected and assess your options.

Advice for road users
-
Avoid driving into or within the affected area if possible. If you need to drive in this area, you will face delays and should allow extra time for your journey. The amount of extra time will depend where you are travelling to and from and at what time of day. To help you plan essential journeys, the above tool gives an estimate of the increase in journey times at different times on a typical weekday during the Olympic Games
-
Areas shown in red on the maps will be directly impacted by Games operations. You should not drive into those areas unless absolutely necessary. This includes the areas around Games venues
-
Driving across affected areas, including the Olympic Route Network (ORN), will be difficult at certain times and will cause additional delays to your journey. You are advised to avoid driving across affected areas if possible. Road restrictions include no parking or stopping on the ORN
-
There will not be any parking at or around venues, so spectators are encouraged to travel by public transport, walking or cycling
-
It will not be possible to drive across the route of Cycle Road Races (Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July) while it is in operation (6am-3pm). You are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid the Cycle Road Race course. Note that this may affect people driving to Heathrow and Gatwick airports
