There are some local travel training schemes in many of the London boroughs.

Going Places (Barnet Mencap)

Description of service: Going Places is a project for adults with disabilities over the age of 18 to become volunteer travel assistants for other adults with learning disabilities. Training will be covered across the borough of Barnet.

TES Bexley

Description of service: Provides travel educational services for pupils who are travellers. Provides tuition, advice and materials for pupils and families. Also there is a travel assistance scheme for 16-18 year olds, people on income support, jobseekers allowance, child tax credit or state pension.

TfL Safety and Citizenship

Description of service: TfL Safety and Citizenship works with children all over London in primary and secondary schools. They conduct role plays to demonstrate safety on transport and outdoors and also work closely with the Travel Mentoring Team and Metropolitan Police. They are often given referrals from various organisations to help enable these referrals to become more knowledgeable and introduce the to independent travel

Southwark Town Hall

Description of service: Southwark Council Road Safety Team trains staff at schools and other centres throughout Southwark to provide independent travel training. They also run a training bus on the second Wednesday of every month that is open to anyone of any age with any type of disability to practise travelling on buses.

Wandsworth

Wandsworth Travelmate

Description of service: Provide independent travel training, mentoring and "buddying" to enable vulnerable people to access public transport as independently as possible. Travel Buddy is a service which provides support for people with Learning Disabilities to travel on public transport safely. They arrange accompanied travels with people to leisure and work venues in Wandsworth. The Travel Buddy scheme also employs buddies and uses volunteers who support people to use public transport.
