London Overground safety

Using a help point At London Overground we are taking safety and security seriously and investing in equipment and resources to make your journey safer.

We aim to make travelling with us a safe and pleasant experience. Following customer feedback we are investing to provide extra staff and equipment, and are working with various organisations to improve safety and security on our network.

Travel safe officers

Since summer 2009, 20 Travel Safe Officers have been patroling our stations and trains during operational hours, working closely with the British Transport Police to deter antisocial behaviour and protect our customers.

British Transport police

Our 35 uniformed BTP officers - the railway equivalent of the Metropolitan Police - patrol the network during train operational hours. They are in direct contact with our station staff and the network control room and are supported by a team of 27 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who also patrol the London Overground network while trains are running.

Safety at stations
Staff are present on our stations during operational hours, providing a visible and reassuring presence and offering help and advice for passengers. In addition, over the next 18 months, CCTV coverage will be extended at stations and lighting and help points will also be improved.

New trains
Our new trains have better lighting and on board CCTV. Walk through carriages also give passengers and drivers a better view through the full length of the train.
