Taxicard
What is Taxicard?
Taxicard is a door-to-door transport service for Londoners with serious mobility impairments and to whom public transport is not usually accessible.
Financed by the London boroughs and the Mayor of London, the scheme increases the independence and the mobility of disabled people by providing subsidised trips in licensed London taxis.
Taxicard is administered by the London Councils Transport and Environment Committee.
Top of pageWho is eligible?
You may be eligible if you:
- receive the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance or the higher rate Attendance Allowance
- are registered blind
- receive the War Pension Mobility Component
You may still be eligible even if none of these apply to you:
- if your GP endorses your application
- you may have to have a mobility assessment
How does the subsidy work?
The scheme may vary slightly depending which borough you live in but generally Taxicard members pay a flat fare of £1.50 per trip.
Most boroughs subsidise trips to a maximum of:
- £10.30 during the day
- £11.30 at weekends
- £12.80 at night
For example
If a cardholder makes a weekday journey with a metered fare of £14.00, the payment would be:
- the member pays a minimum contribution of a £1.50 flat fare
- the maximum borough subsidy is £10.30
- the fare limit is £11.80
The member pays £2.20 in addition to the £1.50 flat fare, a total of £3.70.
