Changes to travel

Oxford street buses As part of our work to transform Tottenham Court Road, we have diverted some bus services and made changes to walking and cycling routes.

Changes to traffic on Oxford Street

Before tunnelling and excavation work for the new Crossrail station and bigger Tube station begins, a number of utilities below Oxford Street need to be strengthened or replaced.

This means that a section of Oxford Street, between Newman Street and Tottenham Court Road, will be closed from January 2010 until November 2010.

The eastbound lane of this section of Oxford Street will be closed and traffic diversions will be in place during this time to manage eastbound traffic.

Changes to traffic on Charing Cross Road

The Charing Cross Road contra-flow bus lane has closed from Denmark Street to New Oxford Street to enable the building works at the station.

This means local route diversions for southbound buses only, and a shortening of one route.

The diversions are expected to be in place during the seven year period of works. Find out more about the changes to travel in this area.
