Next steps
The works are complex and take place in a very busy part of London, at an important crossroads. These works require careful management, including minimising disruption to local residents and businesses and keeping people informed about them.
Construction will meet best practice standards and will be overseen by various procedures and standards, including those laid down by Parliament and the considerate construction schemes of both the London boroughs of Camden and Westminster.
Construction works and Tottenham Court Road Station
The aim is to keep Tottenham Court Road station open during construction although it might be necessary at times to close it at weekends, earlier in the evening or to restrict interchange between the Central and Northern lines.
We will keep you informed about how the work will affect your journey through posters and public address announcements, emails and articles in the London media.

Proposed timeline of works
Underway
Thames Water mains upgrades and utilities diversion works.
July 2008 - November 2008
Preparatory works to allow building of new ticket hall.
January 2009 - summer 2009
Demolition and construction starts. Bus diversions and some traffic diversions begin.
Summer 2009 - spring 2010
Completion of demolition work.
Spring 2010 - summer 2016
Construction of station takes place.
2013
New station piazza entrance to LU station opens.
2014
Charing Cross Road partially re-opens and the second station entrance opens.
2015
New piazza created and other pedestrian access finished and the final station entrance opens.
2016
New station finished.
2017
Crossrail services begin.
