Delivering improvements
|
There is almost unlimited scope for improving interchanges, but funds are, inevitably, limited. TfL prioritises interchange schemes based on a balanced assessment of current needs, strategic benefits and the practicalities of implementation. In consultation with London boroughs and others who plan and provide transport services in London, TfL has developed the Interchange Plan - Improving interchange in London that explains the methodology and current priorities for interchange projects in the Capital. FundingA total of £58 million is allocated to interchange projects in TfL's five year Business Plan (2004/5 to 2009/10). In addition, TfL's interchange team works with project partners to identify, secure and leverage further funding sources. Transport operators, the Strategic Rail Authority, Department for Transport, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, London boroughs and private developers typically also provide funding for interchange initiatives. CoordinationIn many cases, TfL will take a coordination role in interchange projects, supplying staff resources to get projects underway and ensure that funding bids are coordinated. TfL's role also ensures that system-wide strategic considerations are taken into account and that interchange improvements are delivered across the network. ConsultationTfL's Interchange Plan has been developed after extensive consultation with London boroughs, transport providers and other partners. The Plan sets out TfL's approach to consultation in which the mutual objectives of many different stakeholders can be harnessed to deliver interchange improvements. |
