Green Park

artist's impression of step free access at Green Park We have applied for planning permission to make a number of improvements to Green Park station and the surrounding area, ahead of the 2012 Games.

This includes making the station fully step-free.

The key accessibility improvements will be:

Installing three new lifts to provide step-free access from street level to all platforms and between all three lines serving the station
Increasing the size of one station entrance
Building a new ramped walkway

One of the new lifts will take customers from the street to the ticket hall, and then two lifts will go from the ticket hall to the Victoria line and the Piccadilly and Jubilee line interchange passageway.

Once installed, these new lifts - alongside the existing two lifts which already serve the Jubilee and Piccadilly lines - will provide step-free access throughout the entire station.

Other new features

We are also modernising the station by:

Installing additional CCTV cameras to provide almost complete station coverage
Providing new customer Help points around the station
Improving access by putting tactile strips on platforms/stairs and adding contrasting handrails
Installing new station lighting
Providing a new public address system
Installing new electronic information displays in the ticket hall and on all platforms

Cooling the Tube

We also plan to install new equipment, which will be linked to a cool water supply sourced from beneath Green Park, to help control temperatures on platforms.

Street-level improvements

Working with Westminster City Council and The Royal Parks, we also plan to improve areas at street level. This includes improving access to the station and the park by creating a new sheltered area running along Piccadilly, and a new entrance to the Tube station direct from the park.

Park views and café

For the first time, there will be open views into the park directly from Piccadilly. Park users will also benefit from a new café and information point, which will replace the existing kiosk in the park.
