Pedestrians

- The footway on the east side, from Islington Green to Duncan Street, would be widened by two metres, providing more space for pedestrians and the 'shared surface' loading bays C
- The existing pedestrian crossing at Berners Road junction would be relocated from north of the junction to south of it, in order to accommodate the new pedestrian crossing north of the Islington Green junction H
Parking and loading
- The existing loading bay on the west side near Liverpool Road would be relocated a few metres south
- A new 'shared surface' loading bay would be introduced on the east side between Camden Passage and Charlton Place D
- The two existing loading bays on the east side of Upper Street would be made into 'shared surface' bays on the footway
General traffic
- Junction and signal improvements allow for an improved traffic flow through the area, permitting reduction to one lane of traffic in the southbound direction between Islington Green and Duncan Street E
- The reduction to one lane would allow for the widening of the footway and the bus lane
Bus lane
- The southbound bus lane would be widened to four metres, providing enough space for cyclists and buses F
- Operating hours would be extended to 24 hours a day G
Public space
- We are committed to using high quality and natural stone paving and want to remove unnecessary pedestrian guard rail and reduce sign clutter
Additional information
- The northbound and southbound bus stops by Angel station are due to be changed, to increase the size of the waiting areas and make it easier to board and alight buses. However, these proposals do not form part of this consultation
- The existing loading bay south of Berners Road would be shortened by approximately four metres to accommodate the new pedestrian crossing
