Angel town centre

We are considering improvements to Upper Street and Islington High Street, which form the heart of the vibrant Angel town centre.
We want to improve the reliability of bus services and the conditions for cyclists and pedestrians, along with helping businesses and making improvements to the environment.
This is Islington's biggest shopping and business area and is surrounded by densely populated residential streets. Along with the station itself, the result is high numbers of pedestrians using the area throughout the day.
Upper Street and Islington High Street also form part of the A1, one of London's busy strategic traffic routes that caters for heavy traffic flow, high numbers of cyclists and several busy bus routes, including the high frequency Route 38.
Route 38
London's population and economy are forecast to grow significantly over the next two decades resulting in a major increase in the number of daily journeys made. This will put great pressure on our streets and transport systems.
TfL has considered all road users and the local community when developing the Route 38 proposals, with the aim of achieving a better balance between the users of the A1 through Angel town centre.
London Bus priority
This is a high frequency route operating between Victoria and Clapton that transports a large number of passengers.
We want to make radical improvements to the Route 38 corridor through better management of the road network, providing for the needs of traffic, businesses and the community, while giving more priority to buses, pedestrians and cyclists.
