Street network planning
What the work will involve
The NMP approach aims to help us achieve a better balance in meeting the needs of all road users from cyclists and pedestrians to bus passengers and drivers.
To achieve this we will be working with London's boroughs, utility companies, local interest groups and the public to identify issues on the 49 roads, and will consult on possible solutions.
Solutions might range from improved road safety measures to environmental enhancements. Schemes will then be designed to meet the identified needs and fit the available budgets.
Benefits
Londoners will have more say in decisions about their streets
Streets are not just places to travel through but important public locations in their own right, where people live and meet up. As such we aim to maximise their potential as places to enjoy. Our approach is designed to deliver:
- A better balance in meeting the needs of all road users
- More say for Londoners in decisions about their streets
- Reduced disruption and maximised improvements, through closer working with boroughs and utility companies to coordinate road works
