Common questions

On this page:

Why will first trains on Saturday mornings still start one hour later?

As there is still a need to maintain the existing engineering time, starting the service an hour later on Saturday mornings enables TfL to run the service half an hour later on Friday and Saturday nights without affecting Sunday services.

The results of the public consultation showed that the effect of later first Tubes could be especially severe on Sunday mornings as it already starts later than on other days.

Under the Half an Hour Later proposals, two thirds of those previously disadvantaged by the One Hour Later proposals would still be able to use the Tube on weekend mornings. Far more people would benefit than lose out.

Does "half an hour later" apply to all Tube stations?

There is a small group of stations on the Tube network which currently close earlier than 00:30 at weekends and will continue to close earlier when the rest of the network runs until 01:00.

These include stations on the ends of the Metropolitan and Bakerloo lines, as well as Heathrow T4, Kensington Olympia and Cannon Street.

New last train times from central London to the following Stations would be:

Destination From Central London
Amersham 00:38
Cannon Street (Friday) 20:50
Cannon Street (Saturday) 19:20
Harlesden, Stonebridge Park, Wembley Central, North Wembley, South Kenton, Kenton and Harrow & Wealdstone 23.58
Heathrow Terminal Four 23:07
Kensal Green and Willesden Junction 00:23
Kensington Olympia 23:09
Moor Park, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Chalfont and Chesham 00:53
North Harrow, Pinner, Northwood Hills, Northwood, Croxley and Watford 00:40

Last train times to Roding Valley, Chigwell and Grange Hill will also leave central London locations before 01.00. These times will be confirmed shortly.

When are my first and last trains now?

Information on the times of first and last trains on every night is available from London Underground. In addition, TfL's online Journey Planner gives details about journey times and alternative routes.

Does the Half an Hour Later scheme apply to DLR trains?

DLR is currently considering the half an hour later scheme.

Will Tube stations still be staffed when the trains run half an hour later?

We know that our customers feel safer when our stations are staffed and we plan to keep staffing levels the same as they are now for the last hour of current services.

Station staffing levels will be amended to reflect the extension of services and ensure that an adequate level of staffing is provided.

In response to concerns raised through the One Hour Later consultation, arrangements will be made to include additional British Transport Police (which will be deployed late at night) to help reduce risks for both staff and customers.

Will TfL make changes to bus services as a result of the later weekend Tube?

When the Tube runs half an hour later on Friday and Saturday nights, people may use the Tube instead of the bus. Demand for some bus routes might drop.

However, there may be more demand for buses at other times, for example on early Saturday mornings or for a later last Tube to bus connection.

London Buses will decide what changes need to be made to cater for changing needs and ensure the bus service continues to meet requirements.

What buses can I currently use on Saturday and Sunday mornings?

TfL's online Journey Planner gives details about journey times and alternative routes. Alternatively, London Buses can be contacted on 0845 300 7000.

Will late night connections to mainline rail services be maintained at weekends?

The Tube already runs later at night than many mainline rail services. Weekend mainline rail timetables will not change as a result of the later weekend Tube.

How will you protect residents against the effect of a later running Tube?

We know that some residents have existing concerns about the effects of living near Tube lines. People may be affected by noise, which is why we have committed to ongoing investment in the network and proactive measures to reduce it. Further information about our efforts to reduce the effects of noise and vibration are available in section 5.4 of our Environment Report.
