Public response
In spring 2005, we asked the public and stakeholders whether the Tube should run one hour later at weekends (meaning last trains would run one hour later on Friday and Saturday nights, and start one hour later on Saturday and Sunday mornings).
The consultation generated a great deal of interest, with over 54,000 people and more than 100 stakeholders responding.
The consultation and market research showed strong support for a later night weekend Tube (73 per cent of respondents supported the proposal), but concerns were raised about the effect on Saturday and Sunday mornings, particularly Sundays as the Tube already starts later than on other days of the week.
Other concerns related to:
- Connections with other transport services
- Personal security late at night
- Railway noise and vibration for residents
