Routes 38, 507 and 521
In September and October 2008, we consulted stakeholders about making changes to the types of buses running on routes 38, 507 and 521.
We asked London TravelWatch, relevant boroughs, Greater London Authority assembly members, Members of Parliament, the Metropolitan Police and user groups for their views.
Consultation
Bendy buses are currently used on routes 38, 507 and 521, and stakeholders were asked for their views on replacing these with either single-decker buses (routes 507 and 521) or double-deck buses (route 38).
They were also asked to consider any timetable changes that might be necessary as a result.
Results
We received feedback from 53 stakeholders. We are now proposing to implement the following changes:
Route 38 (Victoria-Clapton-Walthamstow)
- Bendy buses should be replaced with double-decker buses in autumn 2009
- Exact frequencies are subject to confirmation
Route 507 (Victoria-Waterloo)
- Single-deck buses will replace bendy buses as soon as they are available (expected summer 2009)
- Exact frequencies are subject to confirmation
- A new Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday service will be introduced at the same time that bendy buses are replaced, with buses running every 12 minutes
Route 521 (Waterloo-London Bridge)
- Single-deck buses will replace bendy buses as soon as they are available (expected summer 2009)
- Exact frequencies are subject to confirmation

Next steps
We are still in contact with stakeholders about the proposed changes to these bus services and will confirm exact frequencies and other detailed arrangements nearer the time of the proposed changes.
