Next steps

Hertfordshire County Council, with our support, are currently working with the Department for Transport (DfT) on a proposal submission for a decision in principle on the project.

We would expect the entire process to take 5-7 years

Once they grant approval for us to request planning permission (via a Transport and Works Act Order Application), a full programme of public consultation would then be embarked upon. When the consultation process has finished, the application would be submitted.

The project would then require final financial approval and construction would then follow. The entire process would be expected to take 5-7 years.

Works programme

The proposal would divert the existing Watford branch of the Metropolitan line to Watford Junction station via a disused National Rail line. It would involve the following works:
