Hertfordshire County Council is developing this project in partnership with us.
Work is currently progressing towards developing a funding deal for the scheme. If the Department for Transport (DfT) grants approval in principle for funding, the next step will be to request planning permission (via a Transport and Works Act Order Application).
We are already working closely with Network Rail, as existing owners of this section track, and this will continue. Once the link is constructed, it would be served as part of the existing Metropolitan line service.

The extension would support the regeneration of the Cardiff Road area
Watford has a number of busy sites, including the Harlequin Shopping Centre, Watford General Hospital, Watford Football Club and the Croxley Business Park. There are also plans for a major redevelopment and regeneration of the Cardiff Road area to form the Watford Health Campus. More details on this project.
There is also a large residential population which is still growing.
