Dagenham Dock DLR extension

If our plans go ahead, construction would begin in 2013 and the extension open in 2017. For more information see our development project updates.
Why extend the DLR to Dagenham Dock?
The Government plans to build up to 10,800 new homes in the Barking Reach development (now called Barking Riverside). By extending the DLR through this area, the new community will be connected to other parts of east London such as the Royal Docks and Canary Wharf (see Barking Riverside master plan image below).

An extension of the DLR to Dagenham Dock will provide an opportunity to serve existing and planned communities in this area and offer an interchange with other transport services at Dagenham Dock station.
We want to provide new public transport facilities in order to develop this area in a sustainable way.
Benefits
existing and planned communities will be better connected to other parts of east London
The aims of the Dagenham Dock extension are:
- To provide better transport links to the Thames Gateway region, bringing new homes, jobs, businesses and facilities into the area
- To minimise reliance on the car
- To provide connections to other parts of east London, including the Royal Docks, the City and key employment and residential centres
- To link up with the planned East London Transit services and existing rail and local bus services
New stations
Five new stations are planned along the route:
- Beckton Riverside would serve the area between the River Thames and the A1020 near the proposed Thames Gateway Bridge
- Creekmouth, Barking Riverside and Goresbrook stations would be located to maximise catchments within the Barking Riverside development
- Dagenham Dock station would be an interchange with the existing C2C services. The area around Dagenham Dock is proposed to be redeveloped as a high density employment area concentrated around the interchange
