Ambassadorship Programme
Engineers and planners are one of the backbones of TfL but we face potential shortages of people with these specialist skills, particularly in Highways, Rail and Transport Planning/Modelling.
To address this, we have partnered with the London Engineering Project (LEP) to find Ambassadors to give presentations and lead interactive activities within school classrooms. Our Ambassador Programme hopes to generate interest and awareness of the engineering and planning professions among keystage 3 school students (11 - 13 years old) by using real engineers and planners as role models to influence the students' choice of subjects.
We ultimately hope to see more students coming into these professions in the future.
Teaching resources
With the help of The Royal Academy of Engineering, the LEP, London Transport Museum and STEMNET we have put together a series of teaching resources which focus on various aspects of engineering and transport planning. These presentations will inspire and engage students through practical examples requiring team work and creativity.
Topics include:
- Building bridges - students will attempt to build a paper bridge to support a weight
- Transport planning - students will create a new bus route
- Signalling - students will learn about train signals and the use of short circuits to control tracks
- Saving energy - students will need to think of creative ways to use sustainable energy

The resources are supported by comprehensive notes to aid learning activities and topics are covered in varying degrees of detail to allow for 30, 60 or 90 minute sessions.
These resources are the same as those used by our Ambassadors during classroom sessions and can also be downloaded by teachers who wish to run their own sessions.
Register
To gain access to the resources, you must register your interest in the programme.
Following registration, we will contact you and provide instructions to access the teaching resources.
