A406 Hanger Lane bridges
Contractors will have access to the site from late August 2008 and the works will be completed in 2011.
Benefits
While we're constrcuting the two new bridges, we'll be working to improve the safety and accessibility of this stretch of Hanger Lane. This will include:
- Replacing Waldegrave Road Bridge with a wider bridge to allow for dedicated turning lanes
- Replacing South Bridge with a new bridge, and converting the old one into a public space with new landscaping, walkways and a cycle path
- Improving cycling and walking facilities
- Replacing sub-standard crossing facilities
- Closing vehicle access between Hanger Lane and Inglis Road to reduce 'rat running' and increase safety
The new bridges will ensure the safety of the railway tracks beneath them, and allow for improvements to be made to the road layout and crossing arrangements.

Disruption
While the works are being carried out, traffic flows on Hanger Lane will not be diverted and rail services beneath the bridges will not be disrupted.
Bus services will not be affected and local properties will still be accessible by foot and on car.
Temporary pedestrian diversions may be put in place to ensure safety, but these will be clearly signed.
