London Overground
Find out more on our Service changes page.
London Overground runs on the Richmond to Stratford, Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction, Gospel Oak to Barking, and Watford Junction to Euston lines.
In 2011 the network will connect to the extended East London line at Highbury & Islington - the start of an orbital service around London.
Running in the future
The extended East London line will become part of the Overground network when it opens in 2010 - running from Dalston Junction to West Croydon, Crystal Palace and New Cross.
It will eventually link with the North London line at Highbury & Islington in 2011.
London Overground improvement programme
A £326m upgrade to the network is continuing and will provide reliable connections to the Olympic Park. The work involves:
- Upgrading more than 200 signals
- Renewing 7km of track and 69 sets of points
- Lengthening 30 platforms and making general improvements to a further seven stations
- Improving CCTV, lighting and passenger information, and installing lifts in some stations
Funding is being provided by TfL, the Olympic Delivery Authority, Network Rail and the Department for Transport.
Works starting in February 2010
Improvement works between Gospel Oak and Stratford stations will result in longer and more frequent trains.
When the upgrade is complete in 2011, services will run as follows:
- Four trains per hour all day from Richmond and Clapham Junction to Stratford
- Six trains per hour all day between Willesden Junction and Gospel Oak
The suspension of Gospel Oak to Stratford services will mean that not all of the trains from Richmond and Clapham Junction will be able to run through to Gospel Oak but will have to stop at Willesden.
In the morning and evening peak two trains per hour from Clapham Junction and two trains per hour from Richmond will carry on to Gospel Oak, while the other one train per hour from Richmond and one train per hour from Clapham Junction will terminate and start at Willesden Junction.
There will also be one extra train during the busiest hour of the peak between Willesden Junction and Richmond.
Off-peak services will be unaffected.
