Motorcycle safety
Safer roads for motorbikes and scooters
We're doing all we can to protect this vulnerable group of road users. For example, the Metropolitan Police Service's Motorcycle Tasking Team runs two special schemes, BikeSafe-London and ScooterSafe-London, to improve the road skills of riders. Since they launched in 2003, these schemes have helped over 20,000 riders to improve their riding skills, helping to reduce motorcycle casualties on London's roads.
Here are more details of how we're making London's roads safer for motorbikes and scooters:
- Rider skills days
Riders who take part in our BikeSafe-London and ScooterSafe-London schemes get expert advice from police motorcyclists on everything from choosing the right gear and spotting hazards to making yourself visible at all times of day.
- Bus lane breakthrough
After successful trials across London, motorcycles can now use the majority of the Capital's bus lanes to make their journeys.
