Northern line extension
Benefits
The plans will improve transport links and public spaces in the area, including the extension of the Northern line to Battersea.
Up to 25,000 new jobs and 16,000 new homes could be created.
Consultation results
We consulted on the route options and sites for the project in summer 2011.
Based on the results of the consultation and further work on the proposal, we've decided to take forward Route 2. This option will create two new Tube stations - one at Nine Elms and one close to Battersea Power Station.

Next steps
We're working with the GLA, the Government and the London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth to explore financing for the scheme.
Once a funding and financing solution is in place, an application to the Government for a Transport and Works Act can be made. We are preparing this application which could be made by early 2013. We plan to consult beforehand.
