Improvements to the local area will include bus stops with well-lit waiting areas, enhanced timetable and service information and new paving.
ELT will make travel easier by providing additional links to the wider transport network including National Rail, Underground and other local bus services.
The first phase from Ilford to Dagenham Dock via Barking town centre is currently under construction and is scheduled to be in service in early 2010.
The second phase, from Barking town centre to Dagenham Dock via Barking Riverside, recently received £18.5m in additional funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government.
It is scheduled to begin construction in 2010, with services starting in 2012.
