Transport for London

London Overground

What is London Overground?

London Overground train

London Overground is the suburban network of rail services we manage in the Capital. The Overground travels through 20 of London's 33 boroughs. When complete, 30 per cent of all Londoners will be less than a 15 minute walk from an Overground station.

Improvements

A multi-million pound investment to bring the London Overground network up to 21st century standards was completed in May 2011.

Since taking over the network in late 2007 we've made several improvements, including:

  • New and longer trains
  • Improved and refurbished stations
  • Extended and new lines
  • More reliable and frequent services
  • Better passenger information
  • Improved accessibility

These improvements were jointly funded by Transport for London, the Olympic Delivery Authority, the Department for Transport and Stratford City Transport Implementation group.

Delivered a year ahead of the 2012 Games, the improvements offer an early transport and regeneration legacy to people living and working along our network.

We are now working hard to complete the orbital network around London with a further extension from Dalston Junction to Clapham Junction via Surrey Quays. This will  link southwest and southeast London from late 2012.

Closures

Clapham Junction - Grant Road entrance

London Overground is being extended from Clapham Junction to Dalston Junction, making journeys between southeast and southwest London quicker and easier. The new services will start in December 2012, with trains running every 15 minutes calling at all stations to Dalston Junction

To prepare Clapham Junction for the new services, we are converting platform 2 into two separate platforms and refurbishing the Grant Road entrance. Works will take place from 13 February to summer 2012.
