Metropolitan line passengers can look forward to smoother, faster, more reliable journeys once a major upgrade of the line's trains, tracks and signalling has been completed.

From 2010 we will be introducing 58 new eight-car trains, which will feature:

  • Air conditioning
  • Walk-through carriages
  • Wheelchair areas
  • Wider doors and walkways
  • Easier access between train and platform
  • Better audio and visual information systems
  • CCTV
  • An energy efficient braking system

By 2011 all the new trains will be in use.

A new signalling system will be introduced by 2016, which will mean capacity on the line will increase by 27 per cent.

Completed stations

Eastcote, Finchley Road, Great Portland Street, North Harrow, Northwick Park, Northwood, Northwood Hills, Pinner, Preston Road, Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, Uxbridge, Watford and Wembley Park.
