Transforming the District Line
Better trains, a new control centre and improved signalling will increase passenger accessibility and comfort on the District line. The upgrade will make travelling on the line faster and more reliable.
From 2013 we will be introducing 80 new trains. The seven-car trains will feature:
- Air conditioning
- Walk-through carriages
- Wheelchair areas
- Wider doors and walkways
- Easier access between train and platform
- Better audio and visual information systems
- Improved CCTV
- An energy efficient braking system
By 2015 all trains will be in use.
Once the new enhanced signalling system is introduced by 2018, capacity on the District line will have increased by 24 per cent.
Completed stations:
Acton Town, Bayswater, Becontree, Bow Road, Bromley-by-Bow, Dagenham East, Dagenham Heathway, Ealing Common, Elm Park, Gloucester Road, Plaistow, Putney Bridge, Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Tower Hill, Turnham Green and Upminster Bridge.
