A world class Tube for London
With around 3.5 million journeys made each weekday, and more than one billion journeys every year, the work to renew the world's oldest metro system is needed now more than ever.
We're working on the biggest transformation in the Tube's history. We are rebuilding the entire network, from tracks to trains and signals to stations.
It's going to take time to make the Tube the world-class network it should be - about 10 years in fact - and it's true there will be some disruption as we carry out improvements. However, we'll keep you fully informed about what's happening, and recommend you always check services before you travel.
Line improvements
Track and signalling might not get you going, but once we've renewed them:
- You won't have to wait as long for a train because we'll be able to run more trains per hour
- You'll enjoy a smoother, faster and more reliable journey
Tube trains take quite a pounding each day, so we're going to be providing brand new trains on some lines, and extra carriages or refits on others.

Station improvements
As we get to work on each station you'll enjoy:
- More pleasant stations - we're giving many a facelift (131 so far), restoring and protecting the heritage of old stations while completely modernising others (such as King's Cross St. Pancras)
- Better access from street to train as we gradually install lifts at key stations, introduce wider ticket gates and change platforms
- Enhanced security
- Improved customer information
