1972
- Bakerloo Line
- Refurbished by Tickford Rail at Rosyth Royal Dockyard 1991-1995.< li>
Essentially, the 1972 stock is the same as the 1967 stock, but designed for crew operation.
They were built by Metro-Cammell and there were two distinct batches.
The 1972 MkI stock (30 trains originally on the Northern Line) and MkII version (33 trains originally on the Jubilee and Northern Lines) are very similar in appearance - the MkII trains have "calling on lights", repositioned train number plates and when delivered had the Underground roundel instead of the word Underground on the sides of the cars.
Although when delivered the MkI and MkII trains were not compatible, modifications have been made to enable inter-coupling.
The majority of MkI trains are no longer in service, though a small number remain in service on the Bakerloo Line and the Victoria Line (converted).
There are three types of 1972 car - DM ("driving motor" cars - fitted with drivers controls and traction motors), UNDM (Uncoupling non-"driving motor" cars - Fitted with traction/control equipment but no drivers controls or accommodation, and fitted with a small cabinet allowing uncoupling and shunting), T (Trailer coach with no driving controls or traction equipment)
